The first ever Year 6 Graduation Prom took place in the grounds of the Heritage School on the evening of June 21st. This event celebrated and commemorated the end of the children's time in the Primary School, and marked their transition up to the Senior School.

The decor for the party was beautiful, with the tables and chairs adorned in white linens, with burgundy napkins, shiny balloons and golden petals laid out on the tables for a splash of colour. It all looked quite simple, and was extremely elegant.

As our young guests arrived, they were invited to have commemorative photographs taken with a school banner, both individually, and as groups of friends if they so wished. While the gentlemen were ushered directly to the designated spot, the ladies were first given a complimentary corsage, which many of them were delighted to show off in their photos. All of the children had made a real effort to look nice for the evening; the girls wore pretty dresses and had their hair done up in elaborate styles, and the boys were dressed very smartly, with some in suits, ties, and even the occasional waistcoat.

Once everyone was seated at their tables, Mr. Butcher gave a speech highlighting the significance of the children having reached this point in their education. Mr. Butcher then called up a few of the children to read out small speeches they had previously prepared. Some of these thanked teachers for their efforts, some remembered their time at the school, and others mentioned the solid friendships they had made with their fellow classmates.

Some of the children then presented a couple of delicious looking cakes to the teaching staff, one of which was decorated with some very colourful marshmallows and the other with Maltesers. I would imagine the teachers will be happily munching their way through those during their tea breaks today.

Then came the crowning of our Prom King and Prom Queen. The winners seemed both surprised and delighted, and looked utterly charming in their sashes. The King and Queen then presented the teachers with some gifts. Sadly, some of those teachers were unable to attend the prom, but we are assured that their gifts will be passed along to them as soon as possible.

With all of the presentations out of the way, the serious business of eating and drinking began, and many a toast was made on each table.

Once it seemed that the revelers had started to slow down on the nibbles and juice, the DJ fired up the music, along with some flashbangs, party poppers, smoke and foam. This was a great way to get everyone up out of their chairs, and almost everyone was dancing along to the music within a matter of minutes. It was obvious that everyone was having a marvelous time, and a great deal of fun.

The weather had co-operated, and we had a lovely sunset. As darkness fell, the DJ turned on his lights, and the party carried on into the night.

Thanks to everyone involved in making this prom such a huge success. The decor was great, the nibbles were delicious, the DJ was entertaining, and the whole thing came together just right.

If you would like to see the rest of the pictures we took, they are available on Flickr. Please feel free to download the commemorative photos as a keepsake. If you intend to print them out, we suggest that you download the highest resolution versions. While these cannot normally be viewed whole on a computer screen because of their size, they will yield much better prints, especially if you have them done professionally.
